This is the first story without Lincoln's partner and although he didn't have much dialogue in the first books, his presence is greatly missed here. He was the other voice and adviser and gave things some balance. Here Lincoln is by himself and without direction for most of the book. Joe does appear for small parts and adds something to the book. The story is good and the book can be recommended, as you learn some more about Lincoln. If you are a Perry fan, you will enjoy it as I did. If you are starting out with Lincoln, I would recommend starting with the first book in the series.

Michael Koryta writes with a lively style. This is the fourth book in a series about a single detective. He keeps a good pace, and the characters are becoming nicely developed. It's a good read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the author's first four books. That made my disappointment with The Silent Hour all the more devastating. Reading it was like trudging through a mud flat at low tide while wearing hip boots. It was almost all dialog. Novels that I have enjoyed (including Koryta's first four) had at least one thing in common There was a balance between dialog and action. If his next one does not return to that balance he will be off my preferred author's list.
I am struggling through this book. I have put it down several times because it is so slow! I keep thinking that I am just not in the mood for this particular story but I think it is the fact that the author is taking forever to tell a story that I just cannot get into. I do not like the characters. I have read other books by Mr. Koryta and enjoyed them. This one just doesn't do it. Glad I did not buy the hardback...Not worth the money.
The final story in the Lincoln Perry series. I've read all of Michael Koryta's books and highly recommend his novels to others.
I am a devoted Koryta fan and I will absolutely read everything he writes. My only qualm with this book, is the addition of the true villain at the 11th hour. Great twist, but give us a fighting chance to solve the mystery, please.
An okay book. Koryta has a way to go before becoming a great writer. Tries too hard to inject humor into each story by attempting snappy dialog that just doesn't work. Plot was convoluted. I've read most of his other books but they just don't make me care a whole lot about Lincoln Perry. I struggled through the last half of this one to finish it. He's written other stand alone books which seem to be a bit better than the Lincoln Perry series.
Another excellent outing in the Lincoln Perry series. Can't wait for the next one. For an experienced ex-police detective, Perry always seems to be a bit lazy in pursuing leads/asking a few fairly obvious questions at the start of each book. These misteps always come back to haunt him, and this book is no exception to that formula. While you wait to see how this will factor in, Koryta weaves a complex web that ties together interesting story lines; great charachters that continue to develop; creative twists & turns; and in this case a few revelations that I didn't see coming.
Excellent read, one of the best of the series. Can't wait to read Koryta's other books in the next few weeks.
