This was a well written and researched novel. I really like the way the author writs and will read more of his work.
Imagine my surprise when I ordered this book after enjoying Sakkara. It is the same book. When was it renamed ????
Stylistically not a great writer, but a good story teller, as could be expected from a journalist. Light reading, but a very entertaing book, with a great combination of romance, action and history.
A Woman of Cairo was an incredible read. Dotted the i's and crossed the t's on the gaps in my historical knowledge of Egypt. His research is faultless. What a shame is is no longer with us. Tanamara is still my favoutite though.
Good read
Based on the life of a young Egyptian girl and an Englishman who fell in love during the changes in Egypt from a monarchy to a republic. The story goes through what life was like during the times when the English had a lot of power whilst bringing in the American manipulations. Well worth a read of this time of Egyptian history.
Woman of Cairo is a delightful read. The love story is interwoven with historical characters and events. Interestingly enough, much of the history has been repeated, after a fashion, in contemporary Cairo. Characters are drawn carefully. The reader can't resist identifying them with real life figures.

It is one of those novels that the reader puts down reluctantly. And, naturally, when it has been read, the reader will search for other novels by Noel Barber.
