Dauntless Blood on the Stars Book 6 eBook Jay Allan
I have been a HUGE fan of Jay Allan for about 2 years now, and I am buying pretty much anything he writes or has written. I fell in love with Blood on the Stars on book 1, and I have continued through the saga and bought every book and audible companion in the series.Blood on the Stars Book 6 Dauntless is the crowning moment in a long drawn out series. This is high octane riveting military science fiction at its best.
I really want to avoid spoilers here, so let's just say that with the Union fielding its Ultimate Old Empire technology gun the Pulsar in the Bottleneck, and preparing to make it go mobile, with Admiral Stryker readying every ship in the fleet to go fight the last battle, with Tyler Barron taking the helm of Dauntless one last time, and bringing back together Atara, Fritzie, and the whole Dauntless crew/family that have survived, with the flight decks crammed with fighters and Jake Stockton trying to deal with his death-dealing rage towards a certain Alliance fighter pilot who has been summoned to Dauntless... With Imperator Venius having dispatched a huge fleet to help his allies in the Confederacy, and having exposed his flank to a cowardly usurper threatening to take down an exposed Palatine - empowered by Sector 9 of the Union of course... Let's just say this is enough nail-binding heart-pounding edge of your seat action for 2 books, let alone one spectacular grand finale. And what about Andy and Pegasus? She too has her part to play, though you can't imagine what that is.
And you cannot possibly imagine how this all ends up, and where we are going from here, and what comes next for our beloved heroes of the Confederacy. Let along Dauntless... what is the fate of the old girl?
There is only one way to describe Book 6 Dauntless: An epic, epic saga.
Who could have imagined that in a military sci-fi space opera book you could get so emotionally embroiled in the lives of the characters and the ships themselves?
This book made me severely overdraw my reading budget. Any book that can cause sleep deprivation and has me trying to figure out times when I can get back to reading... not studying, not working, not doing a lot of other things I can be doing - is absolutely top notch. One of my favorite aspects of Jay Allan's writing is that it is seamless, his characters remain themselves and do not break character, are realistic and believable to the point where you feel like you know them - I mean there are times I am yelling at the book: "What are you doing that for??!!"
It's all there.
So if you are a fan of very well written and professionally and cleanly edited military sci-fi books, this book is for you.
Very highly recommended, and I can't wait to get to Book 7, The White Fleet!

Dauntless Blood on the Stars Book 6 eBook Jay Allan Reviews
Each book in the series has been excellent. It really jumped a level at book 4. When I finish a book I start missing the characters. Since I liked it so much, why the 4 stars. Well, I have to knock it down by 1/2 star, but as we all know, there are no half stars. The reason is that the author seems to feel the need to explain how a character is feeling or what he is thinking by going back in history to repeat, over and over, what has happened in the past. I accept that a refresher is always welcome at the beginning or when reintroducing a character, but when it happens a half dozen times in the book and the narrative is the same, it gets insane. How many times do we need to be reminded that Tyler and Atara are like brother and sister and think alike etc. It was enough to take away a star but getting past the filler cannot blemish the enjoyment of this series. I guess anyone reading this review of book 6 is not new to the series anyway.
Dauntless (Blood on the Stars #6) by Jay Allan
A very good conclusion to this series! And this series needed to come to a close, especially after the events in the last few books. But make no mistake, this universe still has quite a few stories to go, so who knows? Happily the characters are well written and textured. The action scenes (most of this book) are well done and gripping. By thus point you know the people, and also know thier intentions, abilities and shortcomings. And the beauty of this series is that all the characters have plenty of nuanced shortcomings and also bits of brilliance.
So yes, this last, heroic effort by Tyler and the fleet is what the Confeds need against the Union. And the Alliance is there to help, but also has it's own problems back at home (Thank you Sector Nine). And the Union is on the verge of collapse, and the Confederation is sick and tired of a never ending war (oh look, Sector Nine is at it again).
But this battle is for all the marbles, and it plays out in spectacular fashion! Read on to see what the conclusion is, and then wonder about the next plays.
The Confederation is facing a potential loss in their war with the Union. The Union has found an ancient super weapon called the Pulsar and it is capable of destroying the entire Confederation fleet in a space battle. Even with the help of their new allies, the Alliance fleet, they still cannot defeat the Union.
The Confederation has found an ancient weapon of their own and it is a stealth shield for a spaceship. Tyler Barron has offered to make a potentially suicide mission, using the stealth generator, to try to destroy the Union’s Super weapon. He plans to take his old ship, the Dauntless, and his entire original crew has volunteered to go with him. The only problem is that they have to sneak by the entire Union fleet and destroy the most powerful weapon ever known and then escape.
This is a great story that is full of action and suspense. I loved the story line and all of the different scenarios that the story presented from beginning to the end. It is a good story to close out this segment of the saga and I enjoyed it.
