In 1978 I hitchhiked from Boulder, Colorado to Alaska. This book is an account of that trip based on my diaries. Travel with me through beautiful National Parks and along the 1,400 mile long dirt Alaskan Highway. Hear about my encounters with grizzly bears, black bears, moose and some really interesting people.

As a fan of the Gold Rush - Alaska television series, I am eager to get my hands on all first-hand accounts of adventures in that great State. What a joy to have come upon this interesting book! The author is to be commended for writing a visually stunning and thoughtful memoir. Parts of it made me laugh outloud. Leaving from Boulder, Colorado, with his buddy Bryce, he cadges rides, meals and stories from almost everyone he meets. No doubt he is a person of great personal charm. His trip took place in 1978, and it would be interesting if he could re-trace his journey in 2012 and diary the differences. Somehow, I feel the spiritual questions he turned over in his mind 35 years ago would still feel fresh. Highly recommended.Product details

Colorado to Alaska A Hitchhiking Journey eBook Scott Deitler Reviews
A great read. Entertaining and took me back to a few road trips of the past! I recommend all read this book.
Enjoyed the book. It gives an interesting and entertaining view of hitchhiking to Alaska through the eyes of a college student during the late 70's. The author's sense of humor, observations of nature and his recollections of the the people he met during the journey are entertaining and insightful.
Colorado to Alaska- A hitchhiking Journey was a joy to read. Each page led to another description of the natural beauty in North America- Scott did a great job describing what he saw and helped us live his journey through his eyes. He also did a great job showing how nice people are when one takes the time to meet them- you will never know how people really are if the nightly news is your only source of information. I am looking forward to his next book.
Although I read this book, it actually felt like the author was sitting in my living room, recounting his adventures of this amazing trip! Loved it...look forward to more from this fellow! I was SO happy to be on this journey....
I must say this was a great read. I have read many travel books in my life but I have to say that while reading
it, I felt like I was with the author on the trip itself. Quick way of writing, funny and actually amazing things that
happened. I have done a lot of weird things in my travel life but never camped in between Grizzly bears!! I read
the book in one day with a map of the US next to me so I could follow the whole journey. I really recommend
the book and I look forward of reading the second book of Scott Deitler. Enjoy!
This first book by Scott Deitler, 'Colorado to Alaska A Hitchhiking Journey' brought back the feel, flavor and excitement of one's travel as a young man. It was like being in a time travel tale that truely reflects the 1970's and the innocence of youth in Mr. Deitler's quest to see the American northwest. This fun and well written travelogue is a page turner that I couldn't put down. It captured my interest as it layed out the landscape of America and Canada at a time that a dollar still got you somewhere and actually bought you something. A fun and entertaining read from page one.
This book is a quick and fun read with its adventure, humor and it's educational tidbits. It is told by the author through journals written when he was young and that theme comes through in the telling of stories and thoughts. It is obvious he likes adventure and nature and is inquisitive about his surroundings and of the people he meets on his journey. He is true to his word that he met some interesting people. Each had some different wisdom to impart, stories to share or a little bit to teach this young man from their own experiences. The adult side of him also added some facts about the places he visited. I am not quite as adventurous or much of an outdoors person, so I enjoyed living vicariously! Will read more of these should the author publish again. I bought the version.
